Frequently Asked QuestionsWhy does Teamwork Planner only support Monday to Friday work weeks? The project started trying to simplify team week planning which was then based on Monday to Friday. We would like to work on making this more flexible if there are enough requests to do so. Please let us know. Why doesn’t Teamwork Planner allow the use of partial hours?Let's say your standard work day is 8.5 hours. Half a day is then 4.25 hours. And a quarter of a day is 2.125 hours. So, it is easy to end up with multiple decimals. Of course it depends on the type of planning you do, but we regard the use of decimals as implying a precision that does not make sense to most plans. It definitely does not match Teamwork Planner’s concept of a simple and visual Gantt chart. Remember Teamwork Planner is targeted for people that plan for their (project) teams based on estimates. Why doesn’t Teamwork Planner support dependencies?Every business has its own needs. Planning to build a skyscraper, for instance, is completely different than planning to transport cargo. Teamwork Planner is designed to help you plan people's work based on time estimates. Better than most complex planning tools, it focuses on the easy creation of a very visual chart that can be quickly adapted when the plan changes. Remember that time dependency in such situations will be mostly based on the priorities you set and the availability of team members (e.g. best effort). Teamwork Planner will visualize that for you and derive the expected start and end milestones. Dependencies on external factors (outside your project) should be reflected by either trying to fit your planning towards a requested deadline or by you promising a deadline. Whether you need a tool to visualize such dependencies or not, depends on your type of project. Why does Teamwork Planner only support weeks (and not months)? One of the core benefits of Teamwork Planner is its clear way of representing team tasks in colored bars on a weekly schedule. From our experience most people think in weeks. The Gantt chart week header also makes it quite clear what calendar days occur in a given week. That is why we don't expect to support months in the near future. How can I have two persons finish a task at different moments?Well, you cannot. One of the basic ideas behind Teamwork Planner is that the tasks you assign to two (or more) persons can theoretically be executed by both. Doing so helps you calculate when the task will end based on both persons working on it. It's still up to you to decide whether you should split up tasks. Why would I buy Teamwork Planner if I have a more advanced planning tool available?Well, if you're happy with your advanced tool, of course you should not. But if you recognize the trouble you go through to create a simple Gantt chart with some of these tools, then Teamwork Planner is the tool you need. It lets you focus on the planning job itself, not on the tool. This simplicity is especially handy when a plan changes a lot. We see most people who use complex planning tools either spending a lot of time with their tool or (because they are running out of time) stop updating their planning completely. That of course can make things even worse. How do I update my planning?Begin with updating the Start Date on the Project Tab to set a new base line. Then, on the Gantt Chart Tab update all hours to the estimated remaining hours. Finally, evaluate the result, assign or unassign people, and change priorities if needed. You can also remove finished tasks. In this way you have a continuously updated plan available for your team. |
